The album, Intrigued is a compilation of songs I wrote from the time I was a teenager, to just moments before production, so there is a wide range of growth present on the album. I was honored to play songs from this album when opening for Columbia Record's, Ryan Shupe at Oregon State University.
1. In My Mind is an acoustic, sensual expression of some of the places to love someone, a song of obsession and daydreams.
2. Think Again is a fun song, and one of my sassiest that I wrote as a teenager. It sends a very clear message to presumptuous young men. It's fun and light, but the words have a sarcastic sting.
3. Waiting My Whole Life is the song dearest to my heart, written for my husband and performed at our wedding. I locked myself in my room and the words just poured out as though they were from someone else. It was almost like an accident.
4. Lonely is just what it sounds like. I wrote it as I was teaching myself to play the guitar. It was 2:00 AM and I still couldn't put the guitar down. I discovered Dminor7 and the lyrics just fell into place.
5. I wrote the track Intrigued as I imagined what it would be like to explore another person’s mind, to roll around in their thoughts and see what I would find.
6. If You Ask Me To is a message of complete devotion and trust. I woke up in the middle of the night with the lyrics and melody running through my head as though they had always existed.
7. My Everything came to me when I was very young. I had no one to claim as my own, but I imagined how I would feel if I had, and what I would say.
8. Bitter was one of the hardest, most draining, and at the same time, most relieving songs I have written. It is a song about the terrible death of one of my close friends as I was growing up. I thought there was no way that anyone else could know what I was feeling and the bitterness I had toward the world, that I could only fully express in music.
9. Fall Back in Love is a song about two people whose paths cross for a time, but their lives take different turns. It is a song about longing, but knowing that inevitably, they would never be together.
10. I Could Lose Myself is a song about leaving the world outside and being immersed in another person’s love; It is a song of surrender.
11. You Know is partially a story (It really was “three in the morning… and a blanket of stars”) and a thank you.Desire 2006
The title, Desire, encompasses not only my love, but the passion and richness of everything I strive for as a singer/songwriter.
It sums up the tenacious mindset I have had for becoming a singer since I was five years old.1. Playground is a magical song that anyone can relate to who has ever been head over heels for someone. It is about carefree summer love with no regrets. I wrote it while remembering those summer crushes, jumping in the lake on a hot August day, warm nights full of excitement and the hum of crickets in the dark.
2. My intention when I wrote Turns Me On, was to get straight to the point, not to be ashamed about feelings that are natural and good in the right situation. It is rich in harmony and soul. I wanted it to be a song that everyone would like and that would be eternally catchy, like Heard it Through the Grapevine, or Aretha Franklin's Respect.
3. Fallin’ Under, sometimes referred to as I Surrender by fans, is about relenting to an undeniable infatuation. It has always been an audience favorite at live shows because of its danceable high energy.
4. I added In My Mind to Desire as well, because it is another crowd favorite at live shows. To be Recorded
These are just a few of many unrecorded originals that can only be heard at my live shows, and will likely be added to my next album.Pretty Face: Whether it's because of my appearance, my hair color, my gender... I always feel like people fail to give me the benefit of the doubt. People are often surprised that I write my own songs and that there is more to me than their first impression. I wrote this song as a little bit of a stab at those people who would prejudge.
No Excuses: As a female musician, I have often felt that a lot is expected of me, and that I am sometimes under a scrutinizing microscope. However, these lyrics make it clear that I can't spend my life apologizing to every individual who dislikes something I do, and that I have to live my life for myself as well.
Restless: I have always been of a free thinking, strong willed nature and this song is a warning to whoever wants to get to know me.
I've Been Waiting is a composition I wrote on the piano. The words paint a picture of two people, one of which is in love with the other at an inopportune time, and so falls out of love, only to have the other freed and seeking after the first. This has never happened to me, but I have seen it happen so many times in movies, that I felt someone needed to put it to words.
Try Me is a challenge to the world and to myself. I had a good day job, while performing concerts as well, but I found myself having to leave myself messages my voicemail almost daily with new song ideas. Over time, I realized that I was neglecting my song development, and that if I am going to do what I really want to do with my life, I need to do it now and thwart off the demons of self doubt. Yes, I did quit my day job.
Woman: is it shameless to use my feminine wiles as a cop out for my unexplainable idiosyncrasies? Well, I did it anyway. I wrote it over five years ago, and first performed it when I shared the stage with Canadian Idols, Easily Amused.
Tease is a catchy, danceable song reminiscent of the 1920's, or as my bassist tells me, Amy Winehouse. I wrote it in pure sarcasm and fun to the boys who called me a tease because I wouldn't sleep around.
Stand Tall is a hip hop song I composed on the keyboard when I was younger, and almost squeezed onto the album Intrigued, but decided it wasn't fitting with the acoustic sounding album. I wrote it about the passion I have for what I do, with self assurance and confidence as I stand firm in the face of impossible odds.
I hope you enjoy my songs. They are honest expressions of who I am, what I imagine, what I have experienced, or have seen other people experience. Each one has a different message that I regard as gifts for searching within myself. I have nearly 100 others that can only be heard at live performances. I hope to see you there!
